Jesus Is Questioned About Fasting:
The Book of Matthew 9:14-17 tells us that “The disciples of John came to Jesus, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast often, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “Can the friends of the bridegroom mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast. No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment; for the patch pulls away from the garment, and the tear is made worse. Nor do they put new wine into old wineskins, or else the wineskins break, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But they put new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”
Jesus is GOD, and He was with us, (and still with us to this day) Because the LORD was with His disciples it was not a time for them to fast and mourn, Jesus is the Bridegroom and His disciples are the wedding guest, (bride) when Jesus returns to the Father, then they can fast.
The disciples of John the Baptist and the Pharisees were operating by the old way of things, for example, the law and The Mosaic (Moses) covenant, but Jesus came with something much better. (something New)
Jesus did not come to mix the old ways of doing things with the new, or the old wine skin.
The cloth shrinks as it ages, so it would not be wise to patch an old cloth that is old with a new cloth which has not shrunk yet, if we do that, the new piece of cloth begins to shrink and tear apart or make worse.
Our LORD Jesus used this example of wineskin, to explain how the Jewish tradition enhances the light of His preaching about the Kingdom of GOD.
New Wine in new wineskin: The Kingdom of GOD
Wineskins are leather bags that hold wine. The wine would be poured into the leather bag while the bag and the wine is still new, but as the wine ages, the bag expands. So, it is never wise to put new wine into an old wineskin because it might burst and not mix well.
Jesus wants our hearts to be transformed like new wineskin, a new heart that is ready to receive the Holy Spirit. (New Wine, Fresh Wine).
The LORD wants us to grow in His Love and Truth, and a new heart to receive the Precious Holy Spirit. A heart like His own. Meek, Loving, merciful, compassionate, trustworthy, forgiving and kind.
Love should never grow old, especially the new commandment to love one another as Jesus loves us. Yes, love improves with age, so does the good wine.
For in Him dwells all the fullness of the GODHead bodily. (LOVE) Colossians 2:9)
PRAISE THE LORD.
